Register my IDU for eco-contribution

Under French environmental regulations, it is essential to declare and pay eco-contributions on products put on sale. These contributions are used to finance the recycling and waste management of these products, in order to protect the environment.

How do I register with these organizations?

To obtain an IDU, all you have to do is register with an approved organization, such as Ecologic. It's a quick process, and one that's essential if you're to comply with the law. 

In accordance with the French anti-waste law for a circular economy (Loi AGEC), all marketplaces are required to ensure that third-party sellers using their platforms comply with their “Extended Producer Responsibility” obligations for each product sold.

The principle of Extended Producer Responsibility places the onus for managing the end-of-life of products on the producer (importer or distributor on the French market).

As a retailer, the first producer on the French market, you are obliged to participate in the financing of the sector related to the nature of your products, notably and non-exhaustively:

• Textiles, household linen and footwear sector
• Sporting goods and leisure sector
• Packaging sector
• Electrical and electronic equipment 

You are therefore required to:

• join the corresponding EPR eco-organizations, in order to receive a Unique Identifier (UID) for each of the EPR channels concerned.

1 IDU = 1 EPR channel

• collect, declare and pay eco contributions to these eco-organizations
• provide us with the valid IDU(s) for each EPR channel you are involved in.
