What are unique eco-contribution identifiers (IDUs) and why do I need to register them?

French environmental regulation requires eco-contributions to be declared and paid on the products you list for sale. This article explains who is concerned, how to obtain a Unique Identifier (IDU) and where to enter it in Mirakl.

What are eco-contributions for?

Eco-contributions fund the recycling and waste management of the products you sell, in order to protect the environment.

Under the French anti-waste law for a circular economy (loi AGEC), all marketplaces must ensure that the third-party sellers using their platforms meet their obligations under Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR), for every product sold. That principle places the management of a product's end of life on the producer — the importer or the party first placing the product on the French market.

Who is subject to this regulation?

  • Packaging IDU: every seller is concerned and must provide an IDU linked to their business, including for cardboard packaging.
  • Other IDUs, if you source outside France: you must provide an IDU, because you are the first party placing the product on the French market.
  • Other IDUs, if you source in France: you may provide the IDU of your main supplier.

As a seller and first party placing products on the French market, you must contribute to funding the scheme matching the nature of your products, in particular:

EPR schemeExample products sold on Alltricks
PackagingBoxes, tape, shipping envelopes, packing fillers.
Textiles, household linen and footwearJerseys, shorts, bib shorts, gloves, sports shoes.
Sports and leisure goodsBikes, frames, rollerblades, rackets, helmets, sports accessories.
Electrical and electronic equipmentGPS computers, connected home trainers, lights, sensors.
BatteriesCoin cell batteries (heart rate monitors, sensors), e-bike batteries.

This list is not exhaustive. Your obligations are therefore the following:

  • Join the eco-organisations matching the EPR schemes that concern you, so that a Unique Identifier (IDU) is assigned to you for each of them.
  • Collect, declare and pay the eco-contributions to those eco-organisations.
  • Send Alltricks the valid IDU or IDUs for every EPR scheme that concerns you.

ℹ️ Good to know
One IDU covers one EPR scheme only. For more information on how the schemes work, see the ADEME page on how EPR schemes work.

Where can I get my IDU?

You get your IDU from the approved eco-organisation matching your scheme:

  • Citeo — household packaging and paper scheme.
  • Refashion — textiles and footwear scheme.
  • Ecologic — sports/leisure and electrical/electronic equipment schemes.

Where do I enter my IDU in Mirakl?

Once registered, enter your identifier for the scheme you operate in, from your Mirakl account, in your shop tab. Each scheme has its own dedicated section.

⚠️ Important
Enter your IDU in the white field located above the status message, not in the message itself.

Three status messages can be displayed:

Message displayedMeaning
Incorrect or emptyYou are required to complete this IDU, or the IDU provided does not come back as linked to the correct party.
Not concernedThis scheme does not concern you.
ValidatedThe IDU is valid and approved by Alltricks.

IDU sections per EPR scheme and status messages in the Mirakl shop tab

In short

  • The packaging IDU concerns every seller, including for cardboard packaging.
  • One IDU covers one EPR scheme: join every eco-organisation that concerns you.
  • Five schemes cover the Alltricks catalog: Packaging, Textiles/linen/footwear, Sports and leisure, Electrical/electronic, Batteries.
  • Obtain your IDUs from an approved body, for example Ecologic.
  • Enter each IDU in the matching section of the Mirakl shop tab, then check the status message.
